Health News Desk, Everyone becomes friends with a quilter in the winter season, no matter how strong they are. Due to this cold and the warmth from the quilt, the plans made by many people are also ruined. Nobody wants to wake up in the cold in the morning. Everyone’s mind just wants to get some more sleep. There is also a lot of sleep in winter, but do you know why there is so much sleep in cold weather as compared to summer? Why do we remain tired even after waking up? If you are feeling that due to excessive cold you get more sleep then you are thinking wrong. It is true that our sleeping habits change with the seasons. Due to the changing season, the temperature also changes and the duration of sleep also increases. Here it is important to understand why this happens. How does the cold affect your sleep patterns? Actually our body naturally produces melatonin (sleep hormone). Changes in the timing of sunrise and sunset affect melatonin levels.

What is melatonin?

There is often less sunlight in winter than in summer, so melatonin is not suppressed as much as in summer. That’s why many times our body is unable to differentiate between day and night time, due to which the desire for sleep is more. Melatonin is a hormone of the body, which is released from the pineal gland in the body. This hormone itself causes more sleep in winter. The pineal gland is in the brain. When this hormone called melatonin is released, we start feeling sleepy.

What is the solution?

Lack of exercise, unhealthy diet, unhealthy lifestyle, lack of sunlight, weak immunity and diseases like cold and flu are also some of the reasons for excessive sleepiness in winters. All of these factors can affect your sleep during cold weather. However, to avoid this situation, you can take care of some things, such as-

1. Try to get sunlight during day time.

2. Exercise daily for 15-30 minutes.

3. Avoid sleeping during the day and keep yourself busy in day to day activities.

4. Maintain room temperature properly. The bedroom should neither be too hot nor too cold.

5. Do not eat too much food, especially in winter, avoid eating too much in dinner.
